A Team Approach, A Coordinated Effort

Our team is made up of health care providers from over 17 different specialties and is led by craniofacial surgeon, Dr. Jennifer L. Rhodes and Clinic Coordinator, Ruth Trivelpiece.

patient before surgery, afterChildren with cleft and craniofacial conditions face a large number of complex medical issues right from birth. It takes a coordinated effort from a number of different specialists to make sure your child gets the best care possible.

The team approach allows the health care providers to work around your child’s needs — instead of visa versa. It also allows families to get the maximum care for their child with minimum risk, minimum cost, and less time spent in the doctor's office. The team meets several times a month to evaluate and develop an individualized, coordinated treatment plan for each patient.

Jennifer L. Rhodes, MD strongly believes in providing coordinated interdisciplinary care for children with complex and unusual craniofacial anomalies. Virginia’s only dedicated craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgeon, Dr. Rhodes attended medical school at the University of Pennsylvania and completed residencies in general surgery and plastic surgery, as well as a craniofacial surgery fellowship under the direction of Jeffrey A. Fearon, MD. She has presented on craniofacial topics at the national and international level. Read Virginia Pediatrics Fall 2009 newsletter article on the Center
