Welcome to the Center Craniofacial Care
The Center for Craniofacial Care provides comprehensive care for children and their families.
The Center for Craniofacial Care at the VCU Medical Center provides much more than corrective surgeries for children with acquired or congenital conditions such as cleft lip and palate, premature fusion of the sutures of the skull, genetic syndromes, vascular malformations and skull and face asymmetry. The Center, originally founded by Dawson Theogaraj, MD, has been providing coordinated interdisciplinary team care since 1976.
Under the direction of Dr. Jennifer L. Rhodes, the center serves as the primary focal point for children with cleft and craniofacial conditions. We help to coordinate a child's complex care and provide the guidance to healthcare providers in the community, making sure our families get the best care possible.
Dr. Rhodes emphasizes, "Our mission is to help our patients and their families with all aspects of care related to their condition.”
Dr. Rhodes is the region’s only dedicated craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgeon. “We pride ourselves on being a resource center for both families and community health care providers. We let our families know that we will be there with them as their children grow, starting with prenatal and pre-adoption needs to psychological counseling during turbulent teenage years.”
The Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center consists of the VCU Health System, the five health sciences schools of VCU, as well as Massey Cancer Center, and is one of the country’s leading academic medical centers offering state-of-the-art care in more than 200 specialty areas. VCU Children’s offers over 40 pediatric medical, surgical, ancillary, and support services for kids.
